1400 Miles: Beyond Beer, Craft & Community Austin to Denver Bike Ride and Film to Raise Prostate Cancer Awareness
Austin, Texas — A 1,400 mile bike ride from Austin, Texas, to Denver, Colo., this fall will be documented in a film and help raise awareness for prostate cancer.
The Sept. 25 to Oct. 8 ride will include stops in seven cities. During those stops fundraising events will be held, with proceeds benefiting the Pints for Prostates campaign. The project is the brainchild of filmmaker Courtney Cobb and NXNW Restaurant and Brewery founder Davis Tucker.
More information about the ride is available at http://1400miles.com/
Every year, tens of thousands of craft beer enthusiasts along with craft brewers from across America congregate in Denver for the Great American Beer Festival. Beginning in 1988, Tucker was one of those craft brewing excursionists.
Most recently Tucker trekked from Austin to Denver in the NXNW Beerliner Bus — a 1974 refurbished bus featuring 4 beer taps, 3 video screens and a commercial kitchen. Parked outside the Falling Rock Tavern craft beer pub, the Beerliner acts as an Ambassador of Craft Beer earning quite the reputation from craft brewers and craft drinkers as the place to be during GABF.
Motivated by NXNW’s Brewmaster Don Thompson’s inspirational recovery from prostate cancer, the Beerliner will put its reputation to work in seven cities on the journey to Denver, while doubling as a support and gear (SAG) vehicle for a team of cyclists.
At each of the seven stops, cyclists and their craft brewing brethren will host a fundraising event, providing local craft beer straight from the Beerliner taps and fantastic beer inspired food from its commercial kitchen, all to raise money for Pints for Prostates.
Cyclists canjoin the ride for one, multiple, or all 14 days. Riders will pedal an average of 100 miles per day. Some Stages will be relatively flat, the profile for others looks like the teeth of a an old saw, and a few will have several thousand feet of elevation change.
