Service 1st Federal Credit Union and members of the River Rat Brew Trail with support from the Columbia Montour and Great Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureaus, are working together throughout November to raise awareness about prostate cancer. Funds raised will support the Pints for Prostates organization.
Founded in 2008 by beer writer and prostate cancer survivor Rick Lyke, the Pints for Prostates charity and campaign raises awareness among men about the importance of regular health screenings and early detection.
“This is the fifth consecutive year we are continuing our mission of creating awareness in men about the importance of regular prostate health screenings,” said Bill Lavage, president/CEO, Service 1st. “Each year the number of partners who join us in our awareness effort increases. To me, this means we are being successful in promoting regular health screenings for men.”
River Rat Brew Trail participants include: Civil War Cider, 606 Market St., Lewisburg; Covered Bridge Brewhaus, 506 N. Eighth St., Shamokin; Marley’s Brewery & Grille, 1323 Columbia Road, Bloomsburg; Marzoni’s Brick Oven & Brewing Co., 834 North Susquehanna Trail, Hummels Wharf; Old Forge Brewing Company, 298 Mill St., Danville; Rusty Rail Brewing Company, 5 N. Eighth St., Suite 1, Mifflinburg; Turkey Hill Brewing Company, 991 Central Road, Bloomsburg.
According to Andrew Miller, executive director, Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau and David “Otto” Kurecian, executive director, Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau, “We were extremely excited when first approached by Service 1st Federal Credit Union. Having worked with Old Forge Brewing Company and Turkey Hill Brewing Company on past Pints for Prostate campaigns, made it a “no-brainer” for us to engage all the brewers on the River Rat Brew Trail. The more brewers involved in the project, the more dollars we can raise for the cause.”
Members of the River Rat Brew Trail invite you to stop in to support the awareness initiative on the following dates throughout November.
n Nov. 1- 30: Marley’s has brewed a collaboration beer with Old Forge and will be donating a portion of the proceeds from the entire month of November.
n Nov. 10, 12, and 17: Covered Bridge Brewhaus will donate $1 per pint of their collaboration brew with Civil War Cider. They will be open every Thursday and Saturday for the month of November starting Nov. 5.

“The craft beer community in the Susquehanna Valley is joining together with Service 1st to help support this wonderful cause and building a new way to start a conversation, with the language of beer, about men’s health,” said Jessica Nichols, assistant manager, Marzoni’s Brick Oven & Brewing Co. Service 1st will be selling Pints for Prostates 2016 T-shirts for $12 and challenging their own team to grow their beards and paint their nails blue to show support. Service 1st will be making a donation in honor of each employee who supports the initiative and matching donations up to $2,500, raised by the River Rat Brew Trail.
